Selvin “Sadam” Coote, 60 year old native of Cheviott Hills District, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies was approached by media houses in Jamaica urging him to appear on television so as to enable them to make a financial appeal on behalf of his 3 year old daughter Niyousha who is in need of immediate specialized neurological surgery in a hospital in the USA to correct a fast growing tumor in her brain.

Mr. Coote’s indomitable spirit and self-reliance propelled him to inform the media houses that he has never begged anyone in his life and he does not intend to do so in dealing with his daughter’s health crisis.

MR. COOTE’S BELIEF IN HIMSELF AND NEGOTIATING SKILL IN THE USA

Notwithstanding the amount of USD 150,000.00 that was needed for the surgery, belief in himself and his negotiating skill that he displayed between hospitals in New Jersey and Baltimore, Maryland, USA amazingly resulted in his daughter’s brain surgery being done for USD 1,000.00!!!

Niyousha who is now 9 years old after successfully undergoing brain surgery, is doing well medically and academically at the Primary School that she is currently attending. (The name of the Primary School is withheld to protect Niyousha’s privacy).

SELF MADE BUSINESSMAN AND ENTREPRENEUR

In 2007, Mr. Coote invested JMD 30,000.00 to purchase goods which he sold at Lewisville Market, Saint Elizabeth from the back of the boxed truck that he owned.

AN IDEA THAT CAME TO MR COOTE’S AS A DREAM

During a recent interview with smiling Mr. Coote, he told Vincent Samuels, the writer of this article and editor/producer of BOSA Newsletter he went to bed one night and he dreamt that he was selling gasoline at a service station at Lewisville. In the pursuance of the idea that came to him in a dream, Mr. Coote fought gallantly and beat back reactionaries who tried to discourage, distract, and sabotage his idea and dream.

TRANSFORMING A SEVENTY FOOT DROP GULLY INTO THE SITE FOR HIS SERVICE STATION.

Mr. Coote purchased land in the form of a seventy foot drop gully from the road leading into Lewisville from Urban Development Corporation (UDC). Building a massive retaining wall and back-filling from the base of the seventy foot gully up to road level at Lewisville at the same location that he dreamt he was selling gasoline was back-breaking and hazardous work. Nevertheless, propelled by his dream and idea, Mr. Coote would not allow any obstacle to distract him from fulfilling and realizing his dream.

PHILANTHROPIST

Mr. Coote who is an active member in Springfield Moravian Church, Saint Elizabeth, is not selfish and slothful in business. Conversely, he is actively involved in two Early Childhood School Projects in the New Market area. When the writer of this article stopped by to refuel his Nissan Station Wagon at Johnston Petroleum Service Station while on his way to attend Sports Day 2013 at Beersheba Primary School on March 27, 2013, Mr. Coote told him that he would be sending a case of soft drinks as his contribution to the event.

MR. COOTE’S VISION TO BE OF FURTHER SERVICE TO NEW MARKET COMMUNITY.

In pursuance of continuing to explore a business proposal that Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) made to him recently, armed with a letter that the Association sent to Grace Kennedy Remittance Services recommending that Mr. Coote is given favourable consideration to operate Bill Express/Western Union Money Transfer, Mr. Coote received a telephone call from the Business Network Manager at Grace Kennedy Remittance Service informing him that he would soon be meeting him in a one to one site meeting to discuss the business proposal.

In pursuance of seeking broad base support for Mr. Coot’s business proposal, Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) has enlisted the support of Councillor Cyril Martin, Member Parish Council, New Market, Parochial Division who has assured him that he would discuss the matter at the appropriate committee of the Saint Elizabeth Parish Council so as to solicit the Council’s support for the project.

The establishment of Bill Express/Western Union Money Transfer at Lewisville will be of tremendous assistance to people in the im-proverished, poverty stricken, peasant farming New Market community who would be able to pay their Jamaica Public Service Company electricity Bill at this facility instead of having to find additional money to pay taxi fares to commute to and from Black River where they usually pay their bills at the Branch office of JPSCO.

A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AND INCREASED MARKET SHARE FROM NICHE AND DIFFERENTIATED MARKETING STRATEGY.

As an active self make businessman and entrepreneur, a competitive advantage and market share that Mr. Coote is obtaining from his niche and differentiated marketing stragegy, has come as no suprised to Beersheba old students Association (BOSA). Mr. Coot is cognizant that although New Market and adjoining communities  are  im-poverished and poverty stricken, his marketing strategy and market segmentation is proof that he know the needs of his customers and with excellent customer service and Every Day Low Price (EDLP) pricing strategy that he has adopted,  he told the writer of this article that he is fully committed to satisfy each customer who purchase goods or services at his One Stop Shopping Complex.

Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) wishes to laud and big up Mr. Coote and his dear wife Cecelia and their three (3) children who are all supportive of him in his bold risk-taking business venture. BOSA also wishes to Laud and big up Mr. Coote for his vision, innovation, and tenacity as a no nonsense Achiever and Trailblazer in the New Market Community.
