Blowing Of The Shofar (Ram’s Horn) Heralds The Blessings At The Opening Of Sherel’s Bar And Grill Centre At Carr Gate, New Savannah, New Market, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies – Vincent Samuels

Located at Carr Gate in the plains and  once owned white plantocracy of New Savannah, New Market that surrounded by Dixon Hill to the North, the mountainous terrain of Kepp , the  once slave owned estate to the South, the hilly terrain Brunte and New Works to the West, is Sherel’s Bar And Grill Centre. Trees adorned in green bonnets watch in curiosity Jamaican Red Pole cattle graze unconcerned in nearby lush green pastureland, and a tractor driven plough disturbed the tranquil atmosphere and ambience under the white Roof Gazebo Tent under which several invited guests gathered on Thursday, July 25, 2013 for the get together, getting to know you, Grand Opening informal function for the self-made businesswoman that is an integral part of the strategic plan that is designed to reinvent Carr Gate.

Amidst buntings made from black, green, and gold –Jamaica National Colours – and several miniature Jamaican Flags flying in the wind, following the  invocation that was done by Pastor Evelyn Bromfield, New Market Methodist Church and Beersheba Primary School (Government Leased) Alumna, Sherel “Tiny” Hanson, self-made businesswoman, welcomed her guests and eloquently enunciated the story about her survival and transition from a “Mom and Pop Bar”  that was completely inundated by the New Market Flood to the state of the art Bar and Grill Centre, the following persons brought greetings and congratulations to Sherel “Tiny” regarding her innovation:

  • Jocelyn Stephenson, Retired Principal, New Roads All Age School and Sherel’s “Tiny’s” teacher.
  • Joseph “Joe” Campbell, who spoke on behalf of New Market   Community.
  • Sheldon Roberts, who delivered greetings on behalf of the Senior Librarian Saint Elizabeth  Parish Library.
  • Michelle Hamilton-Plummer, Beersheba Primary School (Government Leased) Alumna, who represented The Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica Limited (Black River Branch).
  • Velma Barrett-Gunter, Branch Manager RBC Bank Jamaica Limited (Black River Branch).

Immediately after the final invocation that was done by Mrs. Joan Hanson from the New Testament Church of God, she declared Sherel’s Bar And Grill open and asked God’s blessing on the indigenous Jamaican cuisine that consisted of stewed cow head, boiled corn dumplings, roasted breadfruit, grilled sweet potatoes, and vegetables with enough drink in an orange coloured igloo container nearby to wash down the meal, as if to pronounce the final blessing, Caleb, aka “Grey Beard, “Bald Head”,”Herbman” a globe trotter whose extensive travels took him to Israel where he was taught to blow the Shofar (ram’s horn), blew the ram’s horn trumpet leaving everyone in the audience perplexed.

Following his pronouncement of the final blessing with the blowing of the Shofar, Caleb – an expert herbalist, demonstrated the making of a variety of herbal drinks on his state of the art machines using well known Jamaican herbs to make the concoction which many in the audience sampled with great delight.

Joshua’s Army marched around the City of Jericho, blew  Shofars (ram’s horn) that brought down the walls  of Jericho. (Joshua 6:6-14.)
