At the end of his brilliant scholastic career at Beersheba Elementary School where he was placed on the school’s honour roll, poverty prevented Mr. Samuels from attending High School. Meyler who awarded him the coveted prize of “most dependable senior scholar” when he graduated from Beersheba Elementary School, Mr. Samuels secured employment as a Pre-Trained 4 Teacher at Black River Primary School earning fourteen pounds three shillings and four pence per month which he used to defray his own personal living expenses as well as that of his parents and five siblings.
