Reports given by His Worship the Mayor of Black River and Chairman Saint Elizabeth Parish Council Councillor Everton Fisher, Councillor Jeremy Palmer, Minority Leader Saint Elizabeth Parish Council, David Gardner, Secretary Manager, and Shane Taylor, Director of Planning, Saint Elizabeth Parish Council on the outcome of the Mayoral Delegation that visited Bermuda June 23-29, 2013, is that the delegation was an astounding success.

Highlights from the reports that were presented at the monthly meeting of the Saint Elizabeth Parish Council that was held in the V. V. Allen Chamber, Black River on June 11, 2013 are as follows:

  1. In addition to meetings that were held with the Governor of Bermuda His  Excellency George Fergusson, the delegation met with key groups on the island that have shown keen interest in trade and investment.
  2. Investors have shown keen interest in the establishment of private investment partnership with respect to the export of mangoes and other agricultural products from Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies to Hamilton, Bermuda.
  3.  The Corporation Council of the City of Hamilton has shown keen interest in cultural exchanges involving artists from Saint Elizabeth who will travel to Bermuda to perform at free concerts offered by the City of Hamilton at Victoria Park and artists from Hamilton coming to Black River to perform at public concerts.
  4. Cricketing Authorities in Bermuda have expressed the desire to have under 19 cricketers from Saint Elizabeth visit and play in the island and under 19 cricketers from Bermuda visit Jamaica and play in Saint Elizabeth.
  5. Teaching Institutions in Bermuda have shown keen interest in a teacher exchange programme whereby teachers from Saint Elizabeth would travel to Bermuda to teach in Bermudian Schools and teachers in Bermuda would travel to Jamaica to teach in schools in Saint Elizabeth.
  6. There is investment opportunity in the field of rehabilitation pertaining   to health care.
  7. Jamaicans are playing a pivotal role in Bermuda where they are               employed as Judges, Policemen, and other careers.
  8. His Excellency the Governor George Fergusson has lauded the Twinning of the City of Hamilton and the Town of Black River that was held in an official ceremony which took place at City Hall, Hamilton, Bermuda on June 26, 2013. David Gardner, Secretary Manager, Saint Elizabeth Parish Council read and displayed to the Council, The Instrument of Friendship Agreement bearing the Seal of the Corporation Council of Hamilton that was signed at the Official Public Twinning Ceremony.
  9. The Right Worship Graeme P. Outerbridge, JP, Mayor of Hamilton has accepted an invitation from His Worship the Mayor of Black River and Chairman Saint Elizabeth Parish Council Councillor Everton Fisher to visit the Town of Black River and participate in BLACK RIVER DAY 2014.

    Applauds to Mr. Samuels, our Community Activists for paving the way for this delegation to make this trip when he first went to Bermuda on the fact finding trip re: Mr. James “Dick” Richards. We missed Mr. Samuels photo in the group. This is a great opportunity for the Parish and Bermuda. I can see where exporting some goods, among other things could be very beneficial to the local farmers and community. Thank you Mr. Samuels for the great work you are doing for the community.
