Welcome Sign And Story Board To Be Erected At The Ingress To Carr District in Memory of James “Dick” Richards -Vincent Samuels

Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) is delighted to announce that Home Time Entertainment Limited (HomeTime Cable) whose flagship operation is located at 32 North Street, Black River, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies, has accepted the proposal made by the Association for the Company to donate a Welcome Sign that it will mount on the embankment of the bye-pass road at the ingress to Carr District, New Market, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies adjacent the intersection of the bye-pass road and Beersheba/Flint Valley Parochial Road.

The Welcome Sign will be erected in memory of James “Dick” Richards (1872-1965), icon, philanthropist and a native of Carr District who although he was born and raised in poverty, became one of the wealthiest black men who lived in Bermuda during the segregation period.

Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) intends to revisit the subject matter of a Story Board which the Association is requesting Saint Elizabeth Municipal Corporation which is located in the Town of Black River that has been officially Twinned with the Municipality of Hamilton, Bermuda, to mount in close proximity to the Welcome Sign that will be erected by Home Time Entertainment Limited (Home Time Cable).

In recognition of philanthropic work that James “Dick” Richards has shown to peple in his native Carr District and Beersheba Primary School Community, Home Time Entertainment Limited (Home Time Cable) has undertaken to provide Cable and Internet Service to Carr and Beersheba/Flint Valley Districts, New Market, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies. This long awaited service will improve internet connectivity and reduce cost to students from the impoverished peasant farming Beersheba Primary School Community who are involved in online learning during intermittent absence of face to face classes in school.

A copy of the lettering that Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) is recommending that they be inscribed on the Story Board – a document with these lettering was previously submitted to Saint Elizabeth Municipal Corporation – is resubmitted to the Corporation so that it can continue to pursue the matter.

It is the intention of Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) and other Stakeholders in Beersheba Primary School Community – which includes Carr District – to have a public unveiling of the Welcome Sign and Story Board providing COVID-19 restrictions will allow for the unveiling to be done as anticipated rather that for it to be done virtually.
