WIFI Broad Band Internet Service For J A G Myers Municipal Park, Black River Coming Soon – Vincent Samuels

Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) wishes to commend Saint Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce (Black River Chapter) for its vision and innovation in obtaining sponsorship from Mobile Phone Doctor, J A Deals.com and Home Time Entertainment Limited – that are all located in the town of Black River – in finalizing arrangement to provide WIFI Broad Band Internet Service to J A G Myers Municipal Park, High Street, Black River, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies.

The provision of WIFI Broad Band Internet Service at the Mini Park is good news to high school students, adults and tourists who use the Park daily. The service that will be provided to a Public Park in Jamaica, is another milestone that is of great significance to the Georgian Type Architecture Historic Town of Black River that boast of its many historic accomplishments that include the first town in Jamaica to get electricity that was provided by the Leyden Brothers from England as well as the first town in Jamaica to get a motor car that was owned by the Griffiths Family at Hodges that is situated westerly from the town square.

Black River, the oldest land locked seaport harbour and town in Jamaica, also boasts of other firsts such as:

  •  The first town in Jamaica to have a Department store.
  • The first Rhodes Scholar in Jamaica, the late Alfred Ernest Tomlinson who was born in Cragie Middle Quarters and an Honours Student at Monroe College, was associated with Black River.
  • The fourth Thodes Scholar in Jamaica, the late Frederick Charles Tomlinson – brother of Alfred Ernest Tomlinson, was also associated with Black River.

Tombstones of the Leyden Brothers along with one that belongs to a relative of William Shakespeare, British Poet are part of the rich heritage – including a Story Board commemorating the Zong Massacre that occurred in 1731 that is mounted on the actual site of the slave market where slaves that were brought from Ghana, West Africa were sold openly – of Black River. These artefacts can be viewed on the grounds of Waterloo Guest House on High Street. This picturesque splendour of Georgian Type architecture is preserved by Jamaica National Heritage Trust.
