It is with much sad regret that Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) announces the home going of Edwin “Pun” Pryce, Beersheba Primary School Alumnus, Icon, and the oldest resident in Carr District, New Market, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies.
Edwin “Pun” Pryce who was admitted as a patient in Black River Public General Hospital where his health steadily declined during the length of time he was hospitalized at the institution, passed away on October 18, 2014 at age 92 years.
As one of the primary resource whom Vincent Samuels interviewed on two occasions to get information about the life and person of James “Dick” Richards (1872-1965) whom Edwin “Pun” Pryce knew quite well. Mr. Samuels says that he owes a debt of gratitude to “Pun” for the wealth of information that he provided that enabled him to write his book FROM BEERSHEBA TO BERMUDA, ISBN 978-976-95554-2-6, copyright 2014 by Mandeville Publishers Limited.
Edwin “Pun” Pryce, who expressed his desire to get his personal copy of Mr. Samuels’ book, was visited by Mr. Samuels in Black River General Hospital recently. However, in contrast to his lucid and erudite conversation that he had with Mr. Samuels who interviewed him on two occasions when he was writing his book, the body of “Pun” Pryce which began to break down to prepare him for his peaceful transition, did not allow him to communicate with the author who brought an autographed copy of his book to the patient but he was unable to receive it.
The author of FROM BEERSHEBA TO BERMUDA wishes to endorse the sentiments expressed by Councillor Donal Smith, Deputy Mayor & Alderman of the City of Hamilton says: ‘there are libraries in the grave………” that certainly, another library containing volumes will be placed in the grave in the family plot in the impoverished community of Carr District – birthplace of James “Dick” Richards – when the mortal remains of Edwin “Pun” Pryce are lowered in it.
Edwin “Pun” Pryce leaves behind his sear wife and care-giver “Miss’’ May, grand-daughter Carmen “Mitsy” Jones-Robinson and several other relatives to mourn his loss. Thanksgiving Service for the life of Edwin “Pun” Pryce will appear on BOSA web page as soon as the information becomes available.
