Hundreds Of Mourners Attend Thanksgiving Service For Pastor Horace A. Thompson, JP And Educator Extraordinaire – Vincent Samuels

Hundreds of mourners from a wide cross section of the Jamaican Society and the Diaspora, attended Thanksgiving Service that was held at Emmaus Gospel Chapel, Balaclava, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies for the late Pastor Horace A. Thompson, JP and Educator Extraordinaire (Retired School Principal) who passed away peacefully at his home at Retirement near Maggoty, Saint Elizabeth on September 18, 2014 at the age of 85+ years after a long illness.

Pastor Horace A. Thompson, JP was remembered in glowing tributes that were showered on him at the Thanksgiving Service. Included in fifteen (15) glowing tributes that came from the community, education, the church and nine (9) children of the deceased; His Worship the Mayor of Black River and Chairman Saint Elizabeth Parish Council Councillor Everton Fisher, Mrs. Sonia Clarke (widow of the late Hon. Roger Clarke, Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Blossom Raymond, Ministry of Education Region 5, Senator Ruel Reid, Principal Jamaica College, Mr. Carl Scharschmidt, CEO Christian Brethren Assemblies in Jamaica, Bible Society of the West Indies, Western Missionary Conference (Christian Brethren Assemblies) Emmaus Bible Chapel where Pastor Horace A. Thompson was Corresponding Elder and Pastor for many years, Midland Missionary Conference (Christian Brethren Assemblies), Pastor Allan Smith and Mr. Carlton Jones, Itinerant Evangelist and Educator was recognition for the invaluable sacrificial service that Pastor Horace A. Thompson rendered to the community.

Mrs. Marlene “Bibby” Thompson – widow of the deceased – was lauded for her loyalty, devotion and support that she gave to her husband and best friend over the years. In the sermon that was delivered by Dr. Lloyd Burnett, Itinerant Evangelist, Conference Speaker, Marriage Officer, Pastor and President of Lloyd Burnett Ministries; Dr. Burnett urged the mourners in the congregation to take an inventory of their lives so as to enable them to become aware of the total number of days that they have already lived as they make their daily earthly pilgrimage. Continuing, Dr. Burnett also urged mourners in the large congregation to be cognizant of the fact that they have an appointment with death that they must keep and they should be ready when their time clocks are stopped by their Maker to whom their lives are fully accountable.

In a symbolic gesture of Pastor Thompson and his wife “Bibby” loving and clinging to each other over the years like peas in a pod, a two tier grave was built in the cemetery at Emmaus Gospel Chapel for the couple. The mahogany casket bearing Pastor Thompson’s mortal remains was lowered to the first tier of the grave which was securely sealed leaving the second tier to receive the remains of his beloved widow when she makes her transition. Pastor Horace A. Thompson, JP and his widow Marlene “Bibby” Thompson, were both Commended Full Time Workers in Christian Brethren Assemblies.

As a mark of respect and symbolic salute and farewell to Pastor Horace A. Thompson, JP, “Pastor”, “Teacher”, “Bro.T”,”Mass Horace”, “Daddy”, Prayer Warrior, well known Saxophonist Mr. David Herron, accompanied all the hymns that were played on keyboard and percussion.
Immediately after the singing of Ira D. Sankey hymn: “Sleep On Beloved Sleep And Take Your Rest”, Dark Nimbus Clouds blanketed the eastern skies and torrential showers of rain fell from them profusely in the area.
