Nasheena Dobbs, 12 years old from the impoverished peasant farming district of Flint Valley, New Market, Saint Elizabeth, has taken the coveted first place with an average of 83% in the Ministry of Education 2017 Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT).

Nasheena whom the Ministry of Education has placed at Mount Vernon High School, Montego Bay, Saint James, is the daughter of Nola Delisser, “Miss Berdie”, Janitor at Beersheba Primary School.

The Secretary/Treasurer Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) vividly recalls telling Nasheena that getting a good education will enable her to unshackle herself from poverty as he has done. Undoubtedly, Nasheena took the motivational advice that was given to her by the Secretary/Treasurer who also used education to unshackle himself from poverty in “Mount Ease”, Flint Valley where he was nurtured.

As a result of her excellent academic performance in GSAT, Nasheena is a qualified beneficiary for the scholarship offered by James Richards Educational Trust Fund.

Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) lauds the excellent academic performance of Nasheena Dobbs and stands ready to be her safety net and monitor as she is admitted to Mount Alvernia High School, Montego Bay, Saint James in September 2017. In addition, the Association also commends Miss Velita Cain, Trained Teacher who was abruptly removed as a grade 1 teacher to take up the onerous duty to teach grade 6 and prepare the students to sit GSAT following the sudden retirement of the Principal Mrs. Tatlin Smith-Williams who taught the class for many years. You have done a good job Miss Cain! It is hoped that other teachers will emulate your tenacity and hard work that you have displayed as you worked in your new assignment.

Beersheba Primary School Alumni in Jamaica and the Diaspora who would like to assist Nasheena’s poverty stricken single parent mother in getting her daughter ready for school in September 2017, are urged to log in to BOSA website: bosaonline.org and read information under the heading Fund Raising Activities in the Newsletter posted on its website to see how they can make their financial contributions to assist this financially challenged student.
