It is with much regret and mixed feeling of sadness and joy that Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) announces the peaceful home going of Uriah Smith “Mass Coolie”, age 85 years of Happy Hall, New Market, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies at his home on Thursday morning, March 30, 2017.

“Mass Coolie” is a Beersheba Elementary School Alumnus, Carpenter by trade and former employee at Alumina Partners Jamaica Limited (ALPART), Nain, Saint Elizabeth and Lay Pastor at Beersheba Moravian Church, Carr District, New Market, Saint Elizabeth.

He has been a useful resource and philanthropist to everyone in Beersheba/Happy Hall and adjoining communities and is sadly missed by everyone in his Beersheba Moravian Church family, his biological family members, his friends and relatives and Beersheba Primary School Alumni in Jamaica and the Diaspora whom he leaves behind to mourn their loss.

He is predeceased  by his wife “Miss Joyce,” brother Curtis Brown and mother Edith Brown, housewife and Cassava  Bammy Maker and Marketer, and father Martin Smith many years ago.  Mass Coolie is survived by siblings Leonard, Willie, Egbert, Kenneth, Cecil, “Mass U”, Inez, Gwendolyn, Eugenie and several nephews, nieces, and other relatives to mourn.

As we all mourn the home going of “Mass Coolie” with mixed feeling of sadness and joy – sadness in that we empathize with pain and loss that we all are experiencing at this time and joy that he has been relieved from severe pain and suffering that his body has undergone during years of sickness – let us find comfort in what the Lord Himself said: “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” (Psalm 116:15)

Thanksgiving Service for the life of  Uriah Smith “Mass Coolie” will be held at Beersheba Moravian Church, Carr District, New Market, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies at 11:00am on Saturday April 29, 2017. Interment will be done in the family plot after the service.

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade because a loved one is gone.
Those we love can never be more than a thought apart
For as long as there is memory, they will live on in the heart.
