Dedication of Gate At The Main Entrance To Beersheba Primary School (Government Leased) – Vincent Samuels

As a result of the philanthropy of Councillor Cyril Martin, Member Parish Council, New market Parochial Division and Dr. Trevor Hamilton, International Management Consultant of Trevor Hamilton Associates and Beersheba Primary School Alumnus, one of two broken down concrete columns on which a rusted dilapidated metal gate was partially mounted, has been replaced with a new double metal gate that was manufactured and installed by Benton Blair, Master Welder, at a cost of JMD 80,000.00.

A REAL EYE SORE FOR MANY YEARS
The broken down column to which the rusted dilapidated metal gate was partially mounted that became an eye sore in Beersheba School Community has been in this unsatisfactory condition for many years. Not only was this eye sore and nuisance inimical to the safety and security of students who attend Beersheba Primary School but it also contributed to low morale among the students and academic teaching staff and administration at the school.
USING AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO FIX THE PROBLEM
Utilizing its usual innovative approach to fix the problem, Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) contacted Benton Blair, Master Welder and invited him to attend an onsite meeting that was held at the main entrance of Beersheba Primary School between representatives of the administration at the school, the academic teaching staff, the PTA and Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) on September 13, 2014.

A WORK OF FAITH AND STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

Following the site meeting that was held at the main entrance to Beersheba Primary School, in keeping with the request that Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) made to him to do a sketch and submit it along with a quantity estimate to provide all materials, manufacture and install a double gate to the main entrance at the school, the Master Welder handed the Secretary/Treasurer of the Association a quantity estimate totaling JMD 80,000.00.

During the continuation of a Comparative Review of Beersheba Primary School that was done by Dr. Trevor Hamilton and Vincent Samuels in an attempt to ascertain the reason that Parents in Beersheba Primary School Community had rejected the education product offerings at Beersheba Primary School and transferred their children to New Roads All Age School that was located in the neighboring parish of Westmoreland, the Secretary/Treasurer, Beersheba old Students Association (BOSA) circulated copies of the quantity estimate for the gate to Dr. Trevor Hamilton, Councillor Cyril Martin and representatives of the administration and academic teaching staff and the PTA at Beersheba Primary School that attended the meeting.

WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY
Using the Window of Opportunity that was open to Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA), the association asked Councillor Martin to defray 50% of the cost of the gate; a request to which the Councillor unhesitatingly acquiesced. Simultaneously, Dr. Trevor Hamilton was asked if he would be willing to defray the cost of the remaining 50% of the cost of the gate; a request to which Dr. Hamilton also unhesitatingly agreed. Dr. Hamilton told the audience that was seated in the main auditorium at Beersheba Primary School that as an Alumnus that was molded and nurtured by the school, it was a pleasure for him to give back to his Alma Mater.

BROKEN DOWN COLUMN AND GATE REPLACED AND DEDICATED
The dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting of the new gate that was painted in black enamel color by Cecil “Polite” Gayle, an Alumnus of Beersheba Primary School, was held at the main entrance of the school on November 1, 2014 in the crisp afternoon breeze that blew over the hilly terrain of Flint Valley through trees dressed in green bonnets and waving their branches in joyful splendor. Vincent Samuels, Secretary/Treasurer Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) who chaired the proceedings, likened the eye sore of the broken down column and dilapidated gate that was partially mounted on it to the burden that Nehemiah in the Bible experienced and expressed to King Artaxerxes when he learn that the walls and gates of Jerusalem his native city was in ruins.
Amidst pomp and pageantry that followed cutting of the ribbon and brief address by Dr. Trevor Hamilton, Rev. Phyllis Smith-Seymour, Chairman School Board, Beersheba Primary School (Government Leased), Naomi Foster-Brooks, Senior Teacher representing the academic teaching staff and Nickesha Lawrence, PTA President brought greetings and commended Beersheba Old Students Association (BOSA) for its innovation. Following the rendition of two Patriotic Songs by students from the school, Rev. Christopher Eupha, Moravian Minister at Beersheba Moravian Church, was invited to invoke God’s Blessing and dedicate the new gate to the glory and honor of God.
