The book further relates that although James “Dick” Richards who is revered in his native Carr District and adjoining communities in New Market, Saint Elizabeth as “Bermuda King” was forced to fend for himself at a very early age, he became one of Principal Shareholders in Bermuda National Bank and one of the wealthiest black men in Bermuda.

Congratulations Mr. Samuels for writing this book regarding James “Dick” Richards’ life story from poverty to wealth, I know that this book contains information that our young people do not know about Mr. Richards. The book is history lesson for all of us. I concur with the Deputy Mayor of Bermuda and Alderman that “If we do not know our history, we will not know where we are going.” As a result of what Mr. Richards did for the students at Beersheba Primary School, several of these students have gotten the chance to improve their lives so that in years to come, hopefully they will make a difference in the lives of others as Mr. Richards did. Congrats again Vin for working assiduously to inform society about the philanthropic person that James “Dick” Richards was to people in his native Carr District and adjoining communities in New Market, Saint Elizabeth. I urge all Beersheba Old/Past Students to purchase a copy of this book for themselves, I also urge them to donate a few copies to the Library at Beersheba Primary School so that children in Beersheba Primary School Community will have access to this great story.(sh.Boynton Bch, FL)
